Chu Mom Ray National Park in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on August 2 saved a male yellow-cheeked crested gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae), said park deputy director Dao Xuan Thuy.
A man had bought the gibbon from ethnic people to eat. However, the 3kg gibbon, which was in a weak condition, was then voluntarily handed over to local authorities.
The province put forward measures to protect threatened species recently, after two endangered langurs were tortured and killed.
The gibbons were classed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conversation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species./
