Ninh Binh (VNA) – The Save Vietnam’sWildlife Centre in collaboration with Cuc Phuong National Park in the northernprovince of Ninh Ninh on April 19 released 15 endangered Sunda pangolins (Manis Javanica)into the wild. All the animals were confiscated from illegal wildlife tradeacross Vietnam.
Of the 15 animals, three are pregnant, and one wasborn in captivity. They have been treated and cared by the centrebefore being released into the wild.
According to the centre, pangolins in particular andwild animals in general after being rescued by the centre must undergo aquarantine process for at least 30 days to monitor their health condition.
After that, the individuals will be assessed forre-release conditions based on criteria such as good health with no pathogens, and capacity of self-defense and foraging in the wild.
The Sunda pangolin is listed as a critically endangeredanimal. Since its establishment, the centre has successfully rescued nearly 1,700pangolins, becoming the largest pangolin rescue unit in the world./.
