Environmental protection indicator set to be revised

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) is working to revise a set of indicators evaluating the outcomes of environmental protection in line with new institutions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 that became effective from January 1, with a view to issuing it for use this year.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) is working to revise a set of indicators evaluating the outcomes of environmental protection in line with new institutions of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 that became effective from January 1, with a view to issuing it for use this year.

The set of indicators include criteria to evaluate the implementation of environmental protection tasks and public satisfaction over the quality of the living environment. 

The indicators have been applied since 2020. Basing on their self-evaluation and results of the sociological survey conducted by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, localities were ranked in three levels of good, relatively good and moderate. 

Localities that were placed in the group with good results are Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Da Nang, Quang Ninh and Tra Vinh. They have completed many set targets in environmental protection, including high ratios of industrial parks and export processing zones with standardised concentrated wastewater treatment systems, high ratios of treated solid waste, and high levels of satisfaction of locals on the quality of the living environment.  

Meanwhile, the group with relatively good results comprised 34 localities, and the remaining 24 localities registered only moderate results for failing to complete a number of criteria, including those in wastewater and solid waste treatment. Some have yet to submit their evaluation to the ministry. Hanoi was in the third group.   

Basing on the results, the MoNRE has asked leaders of the People’s Committees of cities and provinces to apply stronger measures to improve their performance in environmental protection and record higher outcomes in implementing the indicators./.

Rare wild animals released into natural habitat in Dak Lak
