The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs organised a press conference in Hanoi on May 27 to inform about a range of activities to respond to Action Month for Children 2013 that highlights the creation of equal development opportunities for children.

A number of policies have been enforced by the State to support poor children from ethnic minority groups and those living in mountainous and remote areas, said Head of the Child Care and Protection Department Nguyen Hai Huu.

Mr.Huu, however, added that inequalities remain for children born in low-income families and ethnic minority groups as they have yet to gain access to health and educational services.

The conference calls for the engagement of the whole society to improve the material and spiritual lives of underprivileged children so that they can enjoy equal development opportunities.

This year’s event will include numerous activities including the President’s meeting with outstanding children nationwide, a sightseeing tour around Hanoi, along with other activities to present gifts to unfortunate and ethnic minority children.

Communication campaigns during the month will focus on raising public awareness of child protection and care among individuals, businesses and social organisations.-VNA
