EU grants 100,000 EUR to flood victims in Vietnam

The European Union (EU) on August 28 granted 100,000 EUR as relief aid to local residents effected by severe floods earlier this month in Central Highlands and Mekong Delta provinces.

Hanoi (VNA) –
The European Union (EU) on August 28 granted 100,000 EUR asrelief aid to local residents effected by severe floods earlier this month in CentralHighlands and Mekong Delta provinces.

Thesum is part of the EU’s contributions to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund(DREF) which was established by the International Federation of Red Cross andRed Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Themoney will be allocated directly to more than 18,000 residents in flood-hardesthit areas in the Central Highlands provinces of Dak Lak and Lam Dong and the MekongDelta province of Kien Giang.

Theaid packages include blankets, mosquito nets, kitchenware, water buckets andwater purification powder.

Inaddition, cash will be provided for the most vulnerable families to help thembuy necessities and stabilise their lives.

TheEU and its member nations are the world’s biggest donors of humanitarian reliefaid. Through the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations(ECHO), the EU has annually supported over 120 million victims of conflicts andnatural disasters.-VNA
