Exhibition of Japanese fine art featuring Vietnamese culture opens

A total of 38 Japanese art works featuring Vietnamese culture are on display at an exhibition in the Temple of Literature in Hanoi.

The exhibition introduces Japanese Ukiyo-e wood-engraved fine art works from 34 young Vietnamese artists who studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts.

The artworks are a combination of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints with Vietnamese traditional fine art materials such as silk, lacquer, and Do paper.

Addressing the exhibition, painter Nguyen The Son, curator of the “Dialogue with Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints” project, emphasised that it is expected to promote visual art practices inspired by Vietnamese cultural values and traditional fine arts.

The exhibition is being jointly hosted by the Temple of Literature’s Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities and the Japan Foundation. It will be open until March 12./.
