Dr. Bui Van Thach, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’sEconomic Commission, told a recent seminar in Ho Chi Minh City thatproposing a renovation of the legal framework and policies to create anew breakthrough in this field is very necessary and urgent.
He said that foreign investment has played an important part inVietnam ’s development and international integration over the past 25years, driving the country out of difficulties caused by embargo in thepast and affirming its current policy of being a reliable friend andpartner of the international community.
However, henoted the poor performance of FDI enterprises such as tax evasion, causing environmental pollution and failing to ensure workers’legitimate rights.
Participants at the event alsoanalysed reasons for limitations in attracting foreign resources in thecontext of Vietnam ’s deeper integration as well as the country’s FDIattraction goal in the coming time.
Many of themsaid that Vietnam succeeds in FDI attraction with a number oflarge-scale projects, including those of Samsung and Canon. As FDI willcontinue to be poured into Vietnam in the future, the country shouldhave polices to use this source for economic restructuring, they added.
Meanwhile, some others underlined the need toimprove the efficiency of investment attraction, given the fact thatonly 40 percent of the registered capital has been realised inlocalities.-VNA
