Hanoi (VNA) – The prizepresenting ceremony of the 2018 National External Information Service Awardswill be held on June 7.

On the eve of the event, StandingVice Chairman of the central steering committee for external informationservice Bui Truong Giang granted an interview to the Vietnam News Agency on thenew points of this year’s contest, the external information service’s contributionto national development and solutions to promote the efficiency of the work.

According to Giang, the numberand structure of prizes in this year’s contest have been extended, with workspublished on a number of electronic news websites eligible to enroll. Themaximum duration of video entries is also increased to 120 minutes from 90minutes.

The official informed that the 2018contest received nearly 1,000 entries in 13 languages. Around 30contestants/groups of contestants are foreigners or Vietnamese living abroad,he said, citing as examples ITAR-TASS resident correspondent in Vietnam Yuri A.Denisovich, or Russian specialist Grigory Trofimchuc who has published manyarticles on Vietnam in Russia.

He said in order for theexternal information service awards to earn wider recognition, it is necessaryto improve the quality of entries, with attention paid to the application ofadvances of modern media. He also urged domestic media agencies to expandpublications in foreign languages, increase information exchange with foreignpartners and use social media to promote the image of Vietnam to both domesticand foreign audiences.

The Standing Vice Chairman ofthe central steering committee for external information service highlighted thegreat contribution of the external information service through the timelycoverage of the country’s policies and its achievements in socio-economic developmentand international integration, thus helping the world gain deeper and moreaccurate understanding of Vietnam.

The National ExternalInformation Service Awards is organised by the Party Central Committee’sCommission for Information and Education and the Steering Committee on ExternalInformation Work to honour outstanding authors, press works and books in theexternal information sector.

First launched in 2014, thecontest has drawn great attention from both domestic and foreign pressorganisations, publishers and reporters. The number of entries to thecompetition has increased through years from 515 works in 10 languages in 2014to 970 entries in 15 languages in 2016 and 2017.-VNA

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
