A seminar on Vietnamese short films in the context of international integration was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Dec. 9 within the framework of the 16 th National Film Festival.

Head of the Vietnam Cinematography Department Lai Van Sinh said making Vietnamese short films integrate into international community is an important and essential target of Vietnam ’s cinematography sector.

Delegates to the seminar, including Vietnamese film makers and their colleagues from Laos, Cambodia, Finland, China, the Republic of Korea and the US, pointed to a lack of effective promotional strategy as the main reason why Vietnamese short films fail to reach a wide audience both at home and abroad.

According to Juhani Alanen, Executive Director of the Finland Tampere Film Festival, Vietnamese short films are highly rated in terms of both contents and ways of expression. However, film makers are yet to have a strategy to bring their short films to the public, he added.

He also suggested Vietnamese film makers send their films to compete at international film festivals and contests as this is the most effective way to publicise their works.

This is also a bridge that brings films nearer to the audience, he said.

Foreign delegates advised Vietnamese film makers to study public’s taste in order to meet their demand not only in knowledge but also entertainment./.
