HCM City (VNA) - The first train for the HCM City Metro Line No 1 (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) arrivedin the city’s Khanh Hoi Port on October 8 aboard vessel Bayani.

One of 17 for the urban railway,the three-carriage train set out from Kasado Port in Japan.

The blue train is 61.5 metres in length, four metreswide, and three metres high, with a maximum speed of 110 km per hour and seats also ofblue. It can carry some 930 passengers, with 783 standing.

According to NguyenQuoc Hung, Deputy Director of Sai Gon Port, it takes a day to unload thecarriages from the vessel onto special-use trucks. The job has support fromJapanese experts.

The carriages are scheduled to be transported to Long Binh Depot in District 9 - the repairand maintenance workshop.

Construction of the city’s first metro line between Ben Thanh Market in District1 and the Suoi Tien Theme Park in District 9 is expected to be completed withinthe next few months, with services to be underway by the end of next year.

It will have 14 stations, three of them underground.There will be 17 trains with three carriages each that will run at a maximumspeed of 110 km per hour above ground and 80 km per hour underground.

The 2.05 billion USD line is the first of at least sixto be built in the city./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
