The policy of Doi Moi (renewal) is a correct and creative move that needs to be continued more vigorously, delegates from the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party said at their first theory conference.

At the two-day conference, which concluded in Hanoi on January 11, the two sides agreed that both Vietnam and Laos have made great achievements in their national construction and defence since starting out on the renewal cause more than 25 years ago.

In order to further the renovation process, the two countries should address many theoretical and real issues, they said, adding that the building of a strong and clean party with enhanced leadership and combative capacity is the decisive factor for the success of the renovation cause in Vietnam . Meanwhile, strong and clean State power in the direction of “a law-governed State of the people, by the people and for the people” will ensure success for Laos ’ national construction and defence along the Lao party’s direction of principled renovation.

The two sides analysed the experiences of each country in their renewal causes to shed light on issues arising from reality, particularly those related to developing a socialist-oriented market economy as well as factors contributing to the success of economic, social, cultural and educational reforms.

Many delegates also stressed the key tasks of building the Party, training personnel and increasing ideological and theoretical work in the renewal period.

The heads of the two delegations affirmed that theoretical research has an important role in helping each Party decide the orientation for their operations and development.

Also on January 11, the Central Theory Council of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao National Social Science Council signed a cooperative agreement./.VNA
