Le Quoc Doanh, Deputy Minister of Agricultureand Rural Development, said at the opening ceremony that coffee was among Vietnam’skey products, accounting for a large proportion of the country’s exports.
It has contributed significantly to the nation’spoverty alleviation efforts in particular and socio-economic development ingeneral, especially for the people in the Central Highlands, he said.
Pham S, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committeeof Lam Dong province, where Da Lat is located, said that development of thecoffee industry has brought thousands of jobs for people in the CentralHighlands.
In 2016, a total 1.78 million tonnes of coffeewas exported for a turnover of 3.4 billion USD. In addition to traditionalcoffee beans, Vietnam was able to produce roasted, ground and well-processedcoffee products whose export value reached more than 300 million USD.
Vietnam ranks second after Brazil as the world’slargest raw coffee exporter, with the Central Highlands region contributing to90 percent of the country’s total production.
Lam Dong province ranks second in the countryfor coffee cultivation and production.
Experts have said that despite being the world’ssecond largest coffee exporter, Vietnamese coffee products are favoured forcheap prices while the product quality is not highly spoken of.
That is because Vietnamese farmers plant, growand harvest coffee through traditional methods without applying modern,technological procedures and applications.
Sunday’s exhibition featured 30 booths of coffeeand coffee machine producers from the Central Highlands and northernmountainous regions.
Even organisers gave medals to processingcompanies and co-operatives that have made great contributions to the domesticcoffee industry.
