First Vietnamese studies centre opens in northeast Thailand

A centre for Vietnamese studies was opened in Udon Thani province, northeastern Thailand, on November 1. The facility will provide in-depth training on Vietnam, data and multi-dimensional knowledge about the S-shaped country while contributing to promoting the understanding and sound cooperation between the two countries.

Bangkok (VNA) – A centre for Vietnamese studies wasopened in Udon Thani province, northeastern Thailand, on November 1.
The facility will provide in-depth training onVietnam, data and multi-dimensional knowledge about the S-shaped country while contributingto promoting the understanding and sound cooperation between the two countries.

Speakingat the ceremony, rector of Udon Thani Rajabhat university Dr KhanisaraThansunthornsakun, affirmed that the launch of the centre in this yearreflects the importance of the relations and cooperation betweenThailand and Vietnam, especially whenthe two countries celebrate the 47th anniversary of diplomaticties and 10 years of their strategic partnership, as well as theuniversity marks its 100 founding anniversary.

Currently,Vietnamese language is becoming popular in Thailand. Many localuniversities and high schools have had academic exchanges withVietnam, and more than 30 schools in the northeastern region have taughtVietnamese.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan ChiThanh highlighted the significance of the opening of the centre, sayingthat it marks obtainments in educational cooperation that the twosides have built over the past decades.

With more than 700investemtn projects in Vietnam, Thailand has a high demand for personnelwho can speak Vietnamese and understand culture and society. Therefore,the centre has thepotential to open up many opportunities for cooperation with Vietnameseuniversities, he said.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy presented dozensof tiles of Vietnamese-language books, newspapers, and publications to the university. Theselected documents are diverse in type and content, from Vietnamese languagetextbooks, research books, to magazines, newspapers, among others.

As a prestigious and long-standing educationalinstitution in the northeastern region, Udon Thani RajabhatUniversity has so far signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on academiccooperation and personnel and student exchanges with many Vietnamese universitiessuch as Quang Binh University, the Da Nang University of Foreign Language Studies, ThaiNguyen University, Tan Trao University, among others.

After the opening ceremony of the centre, the Thaiuniversity also signed a MOU with Vietnam's Hue Academy of Music./.

Attracting high-quality talent to strategic science, technology fields

Under the decree, students admitted to eligible programmes who meet entrance score requirements or are directly admitted, and rank among the top 30% of entrants, will be eligible for Government scholarships. The scholarships will be renewed annually based on academic performance and conduct.

Tireless efforts made to restore the names of fallen soldiers

Quang Ngai currently has 127 martyrs' cemeteries containing 37,689 graves, including 26 collective ones. Of these, 16,758 have complete information, 5,134 contain partial information, while 15,771 remain unidentified. Around 6,000 martyrs from the province have yet to have their remains located.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said the participants return to Vietnam at a particularly significant moment, as the country enters a new stage of development following the 14th National Party Congress. Dak Lak team presses on with search for fallen soldiers

During the 2025–2026 dry season, Team K51 recovered and repatriated the remains of 27 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia. The achievement came after nearly seven months of searching through forests, crossing streams and following even the smallest leads.

Unlocking value of archives in search for fallen soldiers’ identities

Once digitisation is completed and a unified database is established, searches will become much faster and more accurate, providing an important foundation for the search for, recovery and identification of martyrs’ remains and for better implementing policies for people with meritorious service.
