Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th CentralCommittee of the Communist Party of Vietnam spent the morning of the firstworking day of its 8th meeting on October 2 listening to severalreports.

Before beginning the meeting,the Party Central Committee (PCC) observed one minute’s silence to rememberformer Party General Secretary Do Muoi and Politburo member - President TranDai Quang, who passed away recently.

Following the opening remark ofGeneral Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Politburo member and permanent member ofthe PCC Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong presented the meeting’s working programme.  

Politburo member and PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc delivered a report of the Government’s Party Committeeon the socio-economic situation and State budget in 2018, along withsocio-economic development plans and State Budget estimates for 2019.  

Politburo member, Deputy PrimeMinister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh read the Politburo’s reportsumming up the 10-year implementation of the resolution of the 10th PCC’s4th plenum on the Vietnam Maritime Strategy to 2020.

The PCC also heard a document ofthe Politburo on regulations on the responsibility to set example of officialsand Party members, first of all members of the Politburo, the PCC Secretariatand the PCC, presented by Pham Minh Chinh, Politburo member and head of the PCC’sCommission for Organisation.

Chinh also delivered a statementof the Politburo on the establishment of sub-committees to prepare for the 13th National Party Congress.

In the afternoon, the PCC workedin group, discussing the country’s socio-economic situation and State budget in2018 and plans for next year.-VNA

NA deputies continue to discuss amendments to Constitution on May 14

The draft resolution to amend and supplement certain articles of the 2013 Constitution comprises two main articles. Article 1 outlines eight proposed amendments and additions to existing constitutional provisions, focusing on the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) and other socio-political organisations, administrative units, and the organisation of local government. Article 2 contains three clauses dealing with enforcement and transitional provisions of the amendments.
