Five people have died and 14 remain missing as storm Wipha brought torrential rains and strong wind to northern and north central localities for several days from August 1.

The Cat Bi airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong and Van Don airport in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh will be temporarily closed from 12:00 on August 2 to 12:00 on August 3 due to the approaching storm Wipha.
More than 294,000 customers of the power sector suffered blackouts as power went out in northern localities of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Hung Yen and Hanoi on August 3 due to storm Wipha, which landed in Quang Ninh on August 2 evening.
One person was dead while 15 others went missing in the north central province of Thanh Hoa early August 3 due to landslides and floods triggered by rains brought by storm Wipha, which landed in northern Vietnam the previous night.
Rescuers on August 4 managed to reach Sa Na village in Na Meo commune in Quan Son district of the central Thanh Hoa province, which was isolated by floodwater from August 3 due to impacts of Wipha, the third storm hitting the country this year.
