(Photo: www.baogiaothong.vn) HCMCity (VNS/VNA) - Five new high-speed rail lines between Ho Chi MinhCity and southern provinces expected to be built by 2025 would helpto ensure smooth transport of goods andimprove logistics services and connections between majorseaports.
Thenew rail lines are included in a larger project for the city’s logisticssector until 2025 with a vision to 2030 that has been approved by themunicipal People’s Committee.
Theywill connect to the national railway system and cross-border transport routes.
Thefirst HCM City - My Tho - Can Tho rail line will start from HCM City, runthrough My Tho city in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, and end at CanTho city.
Theline will link with the North-South railway whose ending point is An BinhStation in Can Tho city. It is expected to extend to thesouthernmost province of Ca Mau.
Thesecond rail line between HCM City and southern Tay Ninh province willconnect with the HCM City - My Tho - Can Tho rail line at Tan Chanh HiepStation in HCM City’s district 12.
Thethird rail line will link Thu Thiem Station in HCM City’s district 2 with LongThanh International Airport in Dong Nai province.
Thefourth rail line will be on the North-South axis, linking HCM Citywith Nha Trang city in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa.
Thefifth rail line will be a double-track railway that will connect thenational railway system to Hiep Phuoc Port in HCM City’s Nha Be district andLong An International Port in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.
Underthe project for the logistics sector, the city has askedthe Ministry of Transport to approve an upgrade of the existingNorth-South railway, ensuring an average speed of 80-90km per hourfor passenger trains and 50-60 km per hour for freight trains.
Ithas also asked the ministry to approve the widening of theexisting HCM City - Trung Luong and HCM City - Long Thanh - Dau Giayexpressways, and speed up construction of HCM City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanhand HCM City - Moc Bai expressways.
Logisticscosts of a number of industries remain high. For example,the logistics costs of the seafood sector accounts for 25-30 percentof total costs.
Oneof the major reasons for the high costs is the traffic congestion onroads between cities and provinces in the southern region, whichlengthens travel time.
Therevenue growth rate of logistics services in the city is expected to reach 15 percentby 2025 and 20 percent by 2030.
Logisticscosts are expected to make up for 10 percent of the city’s GDP by 2025 and15 percent by 2030./.
