Foreign embassies celebrate victory over fascism

The Embassies of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine in Vietnam jointly held a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of victory over fascism (May 9, 1945-2010) in Hanoi on May 6.

Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, former State President Tran Duc Luong and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies.

Speaking at the event, Russian Ambassador Kovtun reviewed the struggle against the fascism. “We had gone through 1,418 days to reach that victory since the Nazis attacked the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941”, he said.

He stressed that the great victory in 1945 basically changed the world situation and opened up a new chapter in the history of mankind.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Party, State and people, Deputy PM Trong extended the warmest congratulations to the people of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus on the occasion.

He said that the Vietnamese people and progressive mankind will always bear in mind the great sacrifice, heroism and glorious feat of arms of the army and people of the Soviet Union in general and Russia, Ukraine and Belarus in particular during the fierce struggle against fascism.

The world has been changing but the great victory in the World War II and the decisive role of the Soviet Union Red Army in saving humankind from the fascist catastrophe will be an eternal truth in the history of the mankind that no force can deny, he added.

Also at the ceremony, Deputy PM Trong said he was pleased with the continuous development of the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and the three countries.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State and people wish to maintain and further develop their friendship with Russia, Belarus and Ukraine for the benefits of the people of each country./.
