Many foreign industrial executives share the view that the 2010 Vietnam Expo, which opened in Hanoi on April 14, offers a golden opportunity for them to expand their operations in Vietnam.
Taek Soo Yoon, the General Manager of Seyoon, a company from the Republic of Korea , told the Vietnam News Agency that their presence at the fair indicates their interest in studying and investing in one of the most dynamic markets in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam is the third market in the world that Seyoon has targeted for investment, said the executive of the wood-carving machine maker when explaining why this was the first time they were taking part in the Vietnam Expo, hinting at the market’s attractive opportunities.
His view was echoed by Winter Marcel, the CEO of the Czech organic fertiliser company WMC Praha, who said that Vietnam has always attracted a lot of interest from Czech business circles and this is why the country is top priority in their investment schemes.
Also from the Czech Republic, the Ortex Company has taken part in the Vietnam Expo for 15 years. The medical equipment maker plans to display all their exhibits, including those for disabled people, then donate them to a military hospital in Vietnam .
Many domestic businesses have also cashed in on this opportunity to boost their exports. The head of the import-export department of the July 27 Packages Company, Nguyen Thai Ha, said that her company has taken part in the event now for 14 years in a row, which has helped to increase its export revenue by between 20 and 30 percent a year.
At the 2009 Vietnam Expo, the company signed a number of contracts worth 4 million USD in total. Ha said that she expected to find new partners at this year’s fair in addition to their traditional clients from the US , the EU, Japan and Singapore .
The Vietnam Expo is held annually and this year 400 enterprises will showcase their products from 700 stands over the three days it is running. The exhibits range from agricultural, forestry and aquatic products to handicrafts, garments, footwear, machinery, building materials and electronic and electric appliances./.
