Former Malaysian PM charged with seventh count

Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on March 13 was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with receiving 5 million RM (1.1 million USD) in proceeds from unlawful activities.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia’s former Prime Minister MuhyiddinYassin on March 13 was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with receiving 5million RM (1.1 million USD) in proceeds from unlawful activities.

According to the court’s indictment, Muhyiddin was accusedof abusing his position as Malaysian United Indigenous Party (Bersatu)president to receive proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to 5 million RMfrom Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, said to be deposited into the party's AmBankaccount at the bank’s Amcorp Mall branch, Petaling Jaya on January 7, 2022.

The Bersatu president pleaded not guilty after the chargewas read out to him.

The Shah Alam Sessions Court also upheld the bail terms for Muhyiddinpresented at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on March 10.

On that day, he also pleaded not guilty to four charges of corruption amountingto 232.5 million RM and two counts of money laundering involving 195 million RM./.
