Four ministers will directly answer questions put by National Assembly (NA) deputies at the parliament’s ongoing ninth sitting, clearing up issues that attract much public interest, said Chairman of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc on June 4.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat will reply to questions on the progress of the national target programme on building new-style rural areas; the coordination among State agencies, scientists, businesses, and farmers in agricultural development; measures to ensure the purchases of farm produce; the sustainable development of industrial trees; and ways to support fishermen at sea.

Problems that Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang will explain include the expansion of domestic and foreign markets amid Vietnam’s participation in many free trade agreements; measures to solve the excess of farm produce and the decline of agro-forestry-fishery exports; and the promotion of made-in-Vietnam goods among Vietnamese people.

Phuc said Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan will mention existing flaws in the application of research outcomes in agriculture; his sector’s responsibility to support technology renovation at businesses and develop the science-technology market; the granting of autonomy to relevant organisations; and the use of finances for scientific-technological activities.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan will respond to queries about the curriculum and textbook reform, the organisation of a single national high school graduation and university entrance examination, and the evaluation of primary students’ performance, Phuc noted.

He continued to say that heads of relevant ministries and agencies will give additional answers if needed. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung or his deputies will also provide further explanations and respond to lawmakers’ direct queries.

Question-and-answer sessions, broadcast live on television and radio, will last for two and a half days, starting from June 11.-VNA
