France provides 85 mln EUR for Hanoi’s urban railways

France will provide an additional 85 million EUR from its Emerging Markets Reserve (RPE) for Hanoi’s pilot urban railway line 3.
France will provide anadditional 85 million EUR from its Emerging Markets Reserve (RPE) forHanoi’s pilot urban railway line 3.

A financial protocol to thiseffect was signed by Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinhand French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Poirier in Hanoi on December12.

Earlier, France provided 250 million EUR for the project.

Alongwith the Asian Development Bank and the European Investment Bank,France has actively engaged in the project through assistance from itsRPE and the French Agency for Development (ADF).

The pilot12.5km-long urban railway line linking Nhon in Hanoi’s Tu Liem suburbandistrict and Hanoi railway station in the inner district of Hoan Kiem,includes a 8.5km elevated section and 4km underground section from ThuLe to Hanoi station.

The underway project also includes 12stations along the line which is designed for a maximum speed of 80kmper hour and capable of carrying over 900 passengers per train. It willtake passengers about 20 minutes to travel the whole length of theline.-VNA
