French-funded project helps Vietnam develop fisheries sector

French-funded projects, including the one on the feasibility study of the construction of a national aquaculture geographic information system (NAGIS), can help Vietnam realise the orientations for the agro-forestry-fisheries chain development towards sustainability, said Nhu Van Cam, Director of the Aquaculture Farming Department under the Directorate of Fisheries, on October 18.

Hanoi (VNA) – French-funded projects,including the one on the feasibility study of the construction of a nationalaquaculture geographic information system (NAGIS), can helpVietnam realise the orientations for the agro-forestry-fisheries chain developmenttowards sustainability, said Nhu Van Cam, Director of the AquacultureFarming Department under the Directorate of Fisheries, on October 18.

Addressing a Hanoi conference to reviewthe outcomes of the project, Can said that NAGIS is important in promoting theestablishment of a technological platform serving the management ofaquaculture, as well as the development planning, mapping, monitoring andcontrol of aquaculture in order to reduce risks caused by climate change.

He underlined that the NAGIS project completely matches the development orientation of the fisheries industry in general and theaquatic farming sector in particular of localities.

This is an effective support tool for fisheriesmanagement agencies to make specific policies based on accurate scientificanalysis and parameters thanks to advanced technology, he said.

The project has six main components, including theimplementation of a survey on users’ demands, a GIS pilot project, and the pilotingof water quality measurement stations.

Pierre Martin, Deputy Economic Counselor at the Embassyof France, held that the project is a step forward in cooperation betweenVietnam and France in the field of satellite services.  He also expressed his hope that the NAGISconstruction project will soon be carried out in Vietnam.

Previously, the French government supported Vietnam ininstalling the vessel monitoring system (VMS) on 3,000 fishing boats in 28coastal localities./.

Vietnam, Argentina promote trade, investment cooperation

On relations with South America, Nguyet noted that in December 2025, Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) announced the launch of negotiations for a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA). The MoIT was instructed to direct key petrol producers and traders to proactively develop supply plans to guarantee adequate fuel provision for distribution systems, maintain regular sale operations, and sell products at listed prices. It must also closely monitor developments in global and domestic petrol markets and adopt appropriate management measures when necessary.

Fuel prices slashed as stabilisation fund used

According to a joint decision by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, the price of RON95-III petrol – the most widely used grade – fell by 3,880 VND to 25,240 VND (0.95 USD) per litre.

Hung Yen takes measures to curb speculation, stabilise fuel market

Petrolimex Hung Yen maintains regular reserves of about 5,500 cubic metres at directly managed outlets and roughly 2,000 cubic metres at franchised stations.
