French professor receives Vietnam’s Friendship Order
French Professor Joel Leroy has been awarded the Friendship Order, the highest distinction of the State of Vietnam for foreign individuals or organisations, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Hanoi’s health sector.

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung conferred the Order on Prof. Leroy at a ceremony in the capital on March 17, which saw the attendance of French Ambassador to Vietnam Berthand Lortholary and representatives from the municipal health sector and Saint Paul Hospital.
Addressing the event, Chung spoke highly of the efforts Leroy, world leading professor in digestive surgery, has made to the city’s health sector, saying that he has made numerous working visits to Hanoi to study and improve the local health care human resources.
The French professor has also directly participated in many operations, saving numerous lives in the city, Chung added.
In 2016, with his support, Hanoi completed the construction of a high-tech and digestive centre, which also provides training to the city’s doctors, Chung said.
For his part, Professor Leroy expressed his honour to receive the distinction.-VNA
