Ten new visiting scholars were selected to join a group of Fulbright US-ASEAN exchange programme participants, according to a statement issued by the ASEAN Secretariat on September 1.
The scholars, representing all ASEAN member states, will conduct four months of research in the US on entomology, human rights, technology and innovation, sustainable development, climate change and international law.
V. P. Hirubalan, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the Political-Security Community, said that the programme will enhance long-term education opportunities for ASEAN scholars.
At the ceremony to announce the new visiting scholars, US Ambassador to ASEAN Nina Hachigian said that the Fulbright US-ASEAN Visiting Scholars programme is intended to increase regional collaboration and partnerships with ASEAN to further the mutual goal of a people-centred region.
The Fulbright US-ASEAN Initiative was announced in 2012 to mark 35 years of friendship and cooperation between ASEAN and the US.-VNA
