Funeral held for former Politburo member

The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front on February 2 held a state-level funeral for former Politburo member Nguyen Duc Binh, who is also former head of the Central Theoretical Council and former Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, who passed away on January 31.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front on February 2 held a state-level funeral for former Politburo member Nguyen Duc Binh, who is also former head of the Central Theoretical Council and former Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, who passed away on January 31.

Delegations with Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and many other high-ranking officials as heads paid last respects to the deceased at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi. Many former Party and State leaders were also present or sent their wreaths to the event.

In the visitor’s note, Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong as well as Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hailed Binh’s various great and outstanding contributions to the Party and the people of Vietnam, especially in the field of political theory, ideology and culture.

The respect-paying ceremony was followed by a memorial service for Binh who will be buried in his home province of Ha Tinh on February 3. 

Nguyen Duc Binh was born on September 9, 1927 in the central province of Ha Tinh. He participated in revolutionary activities in August 1945 and became a member of the CPV in 1946. He was a member of the CPV Central Committee in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th tenures, and a member of the Politburo in the 7th and 8th tenures.-VNA
