Gathering celebrates German National Day in Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam –Germany Friendship Association (VGFA) held a get-together in Hanoi on October11 to mark the 28th anniversary of German National Day (October 3).

Speaking at the event, Minister of Planningand Investment and Chairman of the VGFA Nguyen Chi Dung said it is an annualactivity to allow members to meet and seek partnerships.

Dung noted today’s fruitful Vietnam –Germany ties are based on the firm foundation of traditional and multifacetedrelations.

He pointed to a key connection between thetwo nations, namely the more than 100,000 German-speaking Vietnamese in Vietnamand nearly 130,000 Vietnamese living in Germany.

The official said the VGFA has worked toimprove its performance to diversify people-to-people activities and pledged tocontribute more to Vietnam – Germany relations.

These ties have great potential to thrivefurther, particularly in economy, trade and investment, he added.

Germany is the biggest trade partner ofVietnam in Europe.

This year so far, Vietnam – Germany tradehas hit about 3.5 billion USD. German-invested projects in Vietnam haveamounted to 286, with total registered capital surpassing 1.4 billion USD.

German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Bergersaid his embassy will continue supporting the operation of the VGFA inconducting people-to-people exchanges, thus enhancing bilateral relations.-VNA

AIC case in Ca Mau: Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan sentenced to 10 years in prison

The People's Court of Ca Mau province on August 12 sentenced former Chairwoman and General Director of the Advanced International Joint Stock Company (AIC) Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan to ten years in prison for "violating bidding regulations, causing serious consequences" in a case involving the inflation of equipment prices for environmental monitoring stations in the former Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province).

Australian tourists show growing appetite for Vietnam

Australia has become one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing long-haul tourism markets. Vietnam welcomed 490,880 Australian visitors in 2024, up 26% year on year and around 28% higher than in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first seven months of 2026, the country received 396,648 Australian tourists, a year-on-year increase of 25.8%, placing Australia among Vietnam’s top 10 source markets.

Vietnam-Germany cooperation strengthened in educational publishing

Vietnam eyes global network of overseas Vietnamese experts in strategic technologies

In recent years, networks of OV experts and intellectuals have been established, with nearly 2,000 members. Five innovation and expert networks have also been formed in strategic technology areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technology, cybersecurity, aviation, aerospace and unmanned aerial vehicles, connecting around 50 expert and intellectual associations overseas.
