Hanoi (VNA) – The Party Central Committee’s Politburo and Secretariat held a get-together in Hanoi on January 20 for incumbent and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and members of the Party Central Committee through different tenures to honour the 95-year history of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) as well as veteran Party members, and celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Prominent among participants were Party General Secretary To Lam, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, Politburo member and State President Luong Cuong, former Politburo member and former State President Truong Tan Sang, former Politburo member and former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Politburo member and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, former Politburo members and former Chairpersons of the National Assembly Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Addressing the event, Party General Secretary To Lam highlighted the country’s achievements in 2024 and targets for 2025, including a GDP growth rate of at least 8%, laying a firm foundation for achieving double-digit growth from 2026 onward.
He stressed the need for a renewed mindset, strong determination, great efforts, decisive actions, breakthrough solutions, and creative and effective methods. He urged that all available resources and potential be harnessed and utilised to their fullest, and called for a collective spirit of unity, with a commitment to dare to speak, dare to think, dare to act, and dare to break through for the common good.
Underlining the mission of the Party to lead and guide the country to a new era of development and prosperity, and successfully building a socialist Vietnam with wealth, strong nation, democracy, equality and civilisation on a par with world powers, ensuring that that every citizen enjoys a prosperous and happy life, and making more contributions to world peace, stability, and development.
He highlighted the significance of the period from now to 2030 to fulfil strategic goals to mark the 100th anniversary of the Party’s founding and 100th anniversary of the country, stressing the need to grasp all opportunities.
He also pointed to challenges facing the Party currently and in the future, and outlined a number of immediate tasks, including Party building, socio-economic promotion, cultural, social and human development, and security-defence protection.
Regarding preparations for the 14th National Party Congress, the Party chief underlined the importance of personnel work, which is a key and decisive factor for the success of the Party’s policies and orientations to advance to a new era. He also stressed the significance of streamlining the political system’s organisational apparatus, which is receiving strong support from the community.
Looking back to the Party’s 95-year history, General Secretary Lam acknowledged the contributions of each Party member who serves as a symbol of trust, brainpower and solidarity of the nation. He expressed his confidence that under the Party’s leadership, guided by the Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, the country will continue to complete its historical mission, enabling the whole nation, people and armed forces to overcome difficulties to secure fast and sustainable growth in the new era.
At the event, General Secretary Lam presented the Golden Star Order to former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, and former Politburo member and former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung for their contributions to the Party and nation.
He also awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to Nguyen Sinh Hung, former Politburo member, former Chairman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former Politburo member, former Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Le Hong Anh, former Politburo member, former Standing Secretary of the Party Secretariat; Tran Quoc Vuong, former Politburo member, former Standing Secretary of the Party Secretariat; Tong Thi Phong, former Politburo member, former Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Nguyen Thien Nhan, former Politburo member, former Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; General Ngo Xuan Lich, former Politburo member, former Minister of National Defence, for their exceptional service to the Party and the nation.
Additionally, the Ho Chi Minh Order was posthumously awarded to late General Tran Dai Quang, former State President of Vietnam. General Secretary To Lam handed over the award to his family representatives.
Meanwhile, President Luong Cuong and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presented Party badges recognising 80, 65, 60, 55, 50, 45, and 40 years of Party membership to 15 distinguished individuals./.
