Gia Lai province educates the young to protect national park

The Central Highlands province of Gia Lai over the past years has worked to protect its Kon Ka Kinh National Park through a wide range of activities, especially those designed to improve local students’ knowledge and awareness.

Since 2013, thepark’s environmental education and service centre has opened 40 classesfor some 1,200 students of primary and junior high schools in Dak Doa,Mang Yang and K’Bang districts, which are located in its buffer zone.

After visiting the park, they were encouraged toengage in competitions of drawing maps and paintings as a way to expresstheir views on biodiversity issues and call for forest protection.

Class organisers also worked with local authorities to hold exchangeprogrammes where students had a chance to convey messages onconsequences of deforestation and poaching to local residents throughtheir plays.

The Kon Ka Kinh National Park is one of the seven ASEAN Heritage Parks in Vietnam.

It has 33,565 hectares of natural forests, which are home to 652species of vascular plants, 42 mammal species, 160 types of birds, 51reptile and 209 butterfly species. Up to 34 floral and 29 fauna speciesin the park are listed in the Vietnam Red Book.-VNA

Storm brings heavy rains to northern Vietnam

Storm Narra, the fourth to hit the East Sea this year, brought strong winds and heavy rains to northern Vietnam on early August 22, with some areas forecast to receive more than 500mm of rain as the storm moves slowly over the northern waters of the East Sea.

The project is being implemented in the former Hoa Binh city, now Hoa Binh ward. It has a total investment of 688.7 billion VND (26.38 million USD), including 507.3 billion VND in ODA and 181.4 billion VND in counterpart funding. Bac Ninh earmarks over 1.7 billion USD for environmental protection

Government adopts action programme on environmental protection, climate resilience

The programme aims to translate the Party's orientations into concrete actions while strengthening environmental governance, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting a green, circular and low-carbon economy. It will serve as the basis for ministries, sectors and localities to formulate implementation plans for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision to 2045.
