As many as 200 gifts have been presented to poor overseas Vietnamese in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on the occasion of the coming Chol Chnam Thmay (New Year) festival of Cambodia, which falls in mid-April.

The presents, worth 500,000 VND each, were offered by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the city’s Investment and Trade Promotion Centre and the Association of Cambodians of Vietnamese Origin on April 4.

Addressing the presenting ceremony, the committee’s Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong informed the overseas Vietnamese community in Cambodia of the city’s socio-economic development, and encouraged them to support each other to improve their standard of living.

She stressed that people in Vietnam and HCM City in particular will always stand side by side with the overseas Vietnamese community to help them improve their position in the neighbouring country.

Over the past years, together with other localities nationwide, HCM City has organised many social and charitable activities, including free medical treatment and scholarship programmes to support the community.-VNA
