At a press conference held on February 21 held by the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and the Dien Bien province People’s Committee in Hanoi, it was announced that the National Tourism Year – Dien Bien 2024, themed “Glorious Dien Bien Phu – Endless experience”, will have 169 programmes and events.

At the conference, Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy said to intensify the connections and to create a motivation for tourism development between Dien Bien province and northwestern provinces, the ministry has decided to select Dien Bien as the host of the year with the theme of “Glorious Dien Bien Phu – Endless experience”.
“We believe that through this, the tourism values and potential of Dien Bien in particular and the northwestern region and the country in general will be brought into play, helping realise the goal of turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector,” Thuy said.
2024 holds a special significance to Dien Bien province with a series of events such as the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu historical victory, the 115th anniversary of the establishment of the province, and the 270 anniversary of the liberation of Muong Thanh by Hoang Cong Chat uprising forces.

Besides, there will be special art performances and high-altitude firework displays in the evening of May 6 and morning of May 7. The focal image will be the monument celebrating the Dien Bien Phu victory.

Over the past years, the national tourism years have been successfully held in the provinces of Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Ninh Binh, Quang Nam, Binh Thuan, etc. with many events held throughout the country, manifesting the connection and cooperation among localities in tourism development.
Deputy Minister Thuy said Dien Bien is known far and wide as a historical land in association with the historical Dien Bien Phu victory. The building of relic sites, the monument, the museum on the victory, the command of Muong Phang campaign, and the shrine dedicated to the Dien Bien Phu martyrs have met the need of visitors, both domestic and international.

In Dien Bien province’s tourism development orientations to 2025 with a vision to 2030, it is clearly stated that tourism will be developed into a spearhead economic sector on the basis of the three pillars, namely history tourism; racial culture tourism and exploration of nature; and recreation tourism.
Deputy Chairman Bang said the Party Organisation, the People’s Committees and the people of Dien Bien province are determines to concertedly implements tasks and measures to boost the local socioeconomic development and, at the same time, proactively call for investment with a hope for a comprehensive renovation and breakthrough in its socioeconomic development, continuing to improve the material and spiritual life of the people.
Currently the whole province counts 205 tourism accommodation establishments with 2,765 rooms, with Dien Bien Phu city occupying more than 60% of the total. Local leaders admit this is a hard nut to crack for them in the short term, as the rooms will be insufficient to accommodate all the visitors expected to come on the occasion. Howver, they pledge to do their best to provide the utmost experience for the visitors./.
