LaiChau (VNA) – Minister-Chairman of the Government Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Hau A Lenh on January 14 led a delegationto pay a visit to ethnic minority groups in Than Uyen district of the northern mountainousprovince of Lai Chau on the threshold of theLunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Representativesof the district briefed the guests on the locality’s socio-economicdevelopment, and its efforts to care for policy beneficiaryfamilies, people with meritorious service to the revolution, and households in difficultcircumstances in ethnic minority areas.

Minister Lenh praised the local political system and peoplefor their efforts to overcome difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and reap achievements across fields.

He affirmedthat the Party and State always allocate resources to take care of poor peopleand those from ethnic minority groups with the hope that all people will enjoya warm and happy Tet.

He urged the local Party Committee and authority to accelerate therestructuring of crops and livestock, towards gradually improving income forlocal people and promoting poverty reduction.

Lenh also suggested the local authority pay attention to strengthening thegreat national unity bloc, implementing socio-economic development goals and ensuring social order andsafety, thus contributing to completing criteria in the national target programme on building new-style rural areas.

Onthis occasion, the delegation presented gift packages totaling over 55 millionVND (2,420 USD) for organizations, disadvantaged households and policybeneficiary families in ethnic minority areas in Than Uyen, and 50 million VND(2,200 USD) to the district’s study encouragement fund. /.
