Grand ceremony marks 110th birthday of General Vo Nguyen Giap

A national-level ceremony was held in Dong Hoi city, the central province of Quang Binh, on December 22 to mark the 110th birth anniversary of General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 - 2021), the “Eldest Brother” of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).

Hanoi (VNA) – A national-levelceremony was held in Dong Hoi city, the central province of Quang Binh, onDecember 22 to mark the 110th birth anniversary of General Vo NguyenGiap (August 25, 1911 - 2021), the “Eldest Brother” of the Vietnam People’s Army(VPA).

The celebration coincidedwith the 77th founding anniversary of the VPA (December 22, 1944 - 2021)and 32 years of the All People’s Defence Festival (December 22, 1989 - 2021).

Looking back on the general’srevolutionary career, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Giap was the firstCommander-in-chief of the VPA and assumed this position at the age of 37. Thanksto extraordinary will and efforts, he excellently fulfilled his duties, deservingthe trust of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the Vietnamese people.

Serving as theCommander-in-chief and Secretary of the Central Military Commission for 30years, the “Eldest Brother” of the VPA was an outstanding military strategistand a prestigious leader of the Party, State, and people.

At the historic turningpoints of Vietnam’s revolution after the 1945 August Revolution and in themilitary campaigns during the resistance wars against France and the US, Giapcontributed to the great victories, becoming a legendary general and winningthe admiration and respect from many heads of states, politicians,scholars, journalists, writers, and people around the world, PM Chinh noted.

He went on to say that overthe last 77 years, under the absolute and direct leadership of the CommunistParty of Vietnam, the VPA has been developing unceasingly to become anever-victorious army that defeated powerful countries and their henchmen andfulfilled noble international duties.

At the ceremony, theGovernment leader asked officers and soldiers in the entire army to furtherpromote solidarity to join hands with the entire political system, the businesscommunity, and Vietnamese people both at home and abroad to overcomedifficulties and challenges to successfully carry out the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and achieve fast and sustainable national development.

Khanh Hoa gears up for elections, facilitates voting for tourists

Thanh requested a thorough review of voter lists to ensure all eligible voters can exercise their rights. Polling teams were asked to establish advisory groups to assist voters when needed. Australian expert hails performance of 15th NA, People’s Councils at all levels
