HCM City (VNA) -  A delegationled by Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee NgoSach Thuc visited and extended greetings to Buddhist dignitaries and followersin Ho Chi Minh City on May 27 on the occasion of Lord Buddha’s 2562nd birthday.

Visiting Most Venerable Thich Duc Nghiep, Vice Supreme Patriarchof the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)'s Patronage Council and dignitaries inVinh Nghiem Pagoda, Thuc stressed that Buddhism always stays side by side withthe nation and makes numerous contributions to the national development.

Visiting dignitaries of Khmer Nam Tong (Theravada ) Buddhismsect in Candaransi Pagoda, Thuc acknowledged that together with Buddhist work,the VBS has actively participated in emulation movements and social welfareactivities as well as making efforts to protect the environment, adapt toclimate change and ensure food safety and traffic safety.

Most Venerable Danh Lung stated that Buddhist dignitariesand followers continue promoting the good tradition of Buddhism, activelyresponding to the patriotic emulation movement and other campaigns initiated bythe Vietnam Fatherland Front, and maintain contributions to the national greatunity.

On the day, the delegation also visited Most Venerable ThichGiac Toan, Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council, who represents theKhat si Vietnam Nam (Mendicant Buddhist) Sect; Most Venerable Thich Thien Tam,Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council and head of the Kinh Nam TongSect, and Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, Vice Supreme Patriarch of the VietnamBuddhist Sangha (VBS)'s Patronage Council and head of the Executive Council ofthe VBS’s Ho Chi Minh City chapter.-VNA

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).

Vietnamese, Chinese cities to build smart border gate pair

They also consented to promote the development of a cross-border economic cooperation zone through sectoral cooperation at Hai Yen industrial park, Van Ninh international port in Mong Cai; a cross-border e-commerce industrial park; and transport connectivity projects between the two cities including the international railway line from Mong Cai to Dongxing, Bac Luan III bridge, and an auxiliary rough steel bridge.
