Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom Caballeros has praised Vietnam’s development model as an example for developing countries, especially its policy of combing economic growth and social progress.

Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom Caballeros has praised Vietnam’s development model as an example for developing countries, especially its policy of combing economic growth and social progress.

At the recent reception for Vietnamese Ambassador to Guatemala Le Thanh Tung in Guatemala City, President Caballeros thanked the Vietnamese government for having voted Guatemala as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2012-2013 term.

He said he hopes Vietnam and Guatemala will further strengthen friendly and cooperative ties in future.

On the occasion, Caballeros asked the ambassador to convey his best wishes to Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and invited Sang to attend a power handover ceremony in the country on January 14, 2012.

Ambassador Tung affirmed that Vietnam is willing to work closely with Guatemala at international forums, especially at the United Nations, as well as boost cooperation among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Central American Integration System (SICA).

At the meeting with officials of the Government and the ruling Patriotic Party of Guatemala, the two sides discussed measures to strengthen and further expand multifaceted cooperation in the near future through the exchanges of delegations and the promotion of negotiations towards signing bilateral cooperation agreements in some areas./.
