Authorities of central Ha Tinh province will close Cau Treo International Border Gate to Vietnamese citizens returning from Laos starting on June 18, in the wake of growingly complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.

HaTinh (VNA) – Authorities of central Ha Tinh province will close CauTreo International Border Gate to Vietnamese citizens returning from Laosstarting on June 18, in the wake of increasingly complicated developments of theCOVID-19 pandemic.

HaTinh has facilitated the travelling of Vietnamese citizens returning home via theCau Treo International Border Gate and well performed its duties on receiving,transporting and setting up quarantine sites for the returnees, the provincialPeople’s Committee said in a notice sent to the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos.

However,a recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases has put morepressure on the province’s capacity in providing quarantine and treatmentservices for people, according to the notice.

Theclosure of the border gate will enable the province to focus its efforts onfighting the pandemic.

Inthe notice, the Ha Tinh People’s Committee asked the embassy to help it widelyinform the Vietnamese community and relevant authorities in Laos about theclosure, which will remain until further notice.

TheCau Treo International Border Gate is located in the district of Huong Son. A large number of Vietnamese people living in Laos, Thailand andMalaysia have entered Vietnam via the gate.

HaTinh detected three more COVID-19 local infections on June 17 morning, raisingthe total cases recorded in the province since June 4 to 72./.
