Hai Phong (VNA) – The Bac Son – Nam Hai arterial road was open to traffic on May 3 morning, aiming to connect the east and the west of the northern port city of Hai Phong.
The construction of the road began in December 2013 as part of the Hai Phong urban transport development project that had a total investment of 251.55 million USD, including over 175.09 million USD in official development assistance (ODA) from the World Bank (WB) and nearly 76.46 million USD sourced from local budget.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Binh thanked the governments of Vietnam and Japan as well as the WB’s close and effective cooperation for making the building of the road possible.
He hoped that the collaboration between Hai Phong and the WB would grow further with the city being a trustworthy and effective partner.
The project is expected to cut travel time between the eastern district of Hai An and the western district of An Duong and improve urban accessibility among the inner districts of Kien An, Le Chan and Ngo Quyen.
The project also includes the construction of critical sections of road infrastructure to facilitate future city development, improvement of public bus services and capacity building in transport./.
