Hailstorm continues to hit northern provinces

In Lao Cai, the hailstorm hit Pho Rang town and Luong Son, Xuan Thuong and Long Phuc communes for 20 minutes and devastated more than 10ha of crops in these localities.

So far this week, hailstorms have continuously hit the mountainous districts of Muong Khuong, Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai, Sapa and Bao Yen in Lao Cai.

Earlier on March 27, Lao Cai was hit by a hailstorm, which injured 33 people and damaged 5,700 houses. More than 10,500 households in total and many schools and health clinics were affected.

Early in the morning of March 29, hailstones, having a diameter of 5-15 cm, poured down the northern province of Thai Nguyen, for nearly one hour.

T he hailstorm damaged nearly 1,200 houses in the two districts of Vo Nhai and Dong Hy and several schools and health clinics. Economic damage was estimated at 2.5 billion VND.

After the hailstorms, local leaders in the two provinces came up with support for the affected households.-VNA
