Hanoi, Athens seek closer ties in cultural heritage management

Hanoi (VNA) – Vice Secretary of the HanoiParty’s Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang met with Deputy Mayor of Athens NellyPapachela during her visit to Greece from November 15 – 19 to discuss enhancingthe two capital cities’ relations.

Hang thanked leaders of Athens for the warm welcome andpraised Greece and Athens’ thousands of years of history and culture. Shehighlighted the necessity for enhanced ties between the two capital cities tohelp translate the two governments’ cooperation programme into reality.

Hanoi wants to learn from Athens’ experience inpreservation and management of cultural heritages and step up the bilateralcooperation in culture, tourism, trade and investment to make the most of thetwo cities’ and countries’ advantages.

Papachela welcomed Hang’s proposal, saying Athens standsready to work with Hanoi to implement partnership plans between the two sideswith the support from Vietnamese Embassy in Greece.

The Hanoi official also met with Directorate forEducational and Cultural Affairs of the Greek Foreign Ministry, AmbassadorMichael Daratzikis to exchange experience in management of UNESCO-recognisedcultural heritages.

Greece is home to many ancient wonders as well ascultural and historical heritages with UNESCO recognition. The country has awealth of experience in effectively managing these heritages to motivate thegrowth of tourism and the entire economy.

The Hanoi side gave an overview of the status of culturalheritages in the city and voiced hope to learn from Greek experience to bettermanage the heritages.

The Greek side, meanwhile, said they were willing toshare with Hanoi experience in preparing application for UNESCO recognition andpromoting values of cultural heritages to boost development.

Hang later had a working session with VietnameseAmbassador to Greece Nguyen Manh Cuong, during which they agreed on a long-termcollaboration between Hanoi and the Embassy of Vietnam with the embassy linkingHanoi and Athens.

The embassy will support Hanoi in welcoming a business delegationfrom Greece led by a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs to visit and exploreopportunity for trade and investment in the capital this December. The twosides will also work together to host a Vietnamese culture day in Greece. –VNA

France hands over archival materials for exhibition at Communist Party of Vietnam Museum

The materials include a reproduction of the front page of the August 24, 1945 issue of Cuu Quoc (National Salvation) Newspaper, its first publicly printed edition after previously being secretly circulated in handwritten form, featuring the Vietnamese national flag; and documents and reports on Nguyen Ai Quoc's activities related to the establishment and orientation of the Communist Party of Annam.

Vietnam, France boost economic and financial cooperation

Economic ties have continued to grow across trade, investment and development cooperation. Bilateral trade surpassed 5 billion USD in the first eight months of 2026, with Vietnam exporting 3.1 billion USD worth of goods to France and importing 1.9 billion USD worth of products from the European country.

Following the Vietnamese Film Week in France in 2025, Madame Ly put forth the idea of holding a Vietnamese Theatre Week in France in October, featuring water puppetry, musical theatre, contemporary dance and excerpts from traditional Vietnamese performances.
