Hanoi (VNA) – Diseases in Hanoi have been controlled over the past three months, Deputy Director of the municipal Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh has said.
Since the beginning of 2016, Hanoi has recorded 300 cases of dengue, 281 hand-foot-mouth, and 12 whooping cough, without fatalities.
However, some dangerous diseases such as Zika, A/H7N9 and Mers – CoV are seeing complicated developments in multiple countries, posing a high risk to Hanoi, he said.
The city could see outbreaks of diseases such as hand-foot-mouth and dengue without close coordination between the health sector and relevant departments, he noted.
He suggested regularly monitoring communicable diseases to zone off outbreak areas and ensure prompt treatment.
The municipal Preventive Health Centre should implement a testing system to receive blood samples from suspected patients, while tightening inspections of passengers at Noi Bai International Airport.
It is also important to install body temperature scanners and isolation rooms at the airport to prevent diseases from entering the country.
Medical stations are responsible for providing measles-rubella vaccinations for 129,000 children ages 16 and 17 at schools.
In addition to increasing examinations at border gates, the health sector should coordinate with the education department to spread prevention measures at schools and in the community.-VNA
