Reviewing the patriotism emulation movement over the past five years,Nguyen The Thao, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee statedthat the patriotism emulation movement in Hanoi has developed deep andwide, breathing new life into production and business, helping maintainpolitical security and social order and strengthening people’s trust inthe Party, State and authority at all levels.
Over the past fiveyears, the city has 225 individuals awarded with the State’s LabourOrder; 385 others received the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit;and 3,288 people were recognised “Good individual”.
As theresult of the emulation movement, the city obtained an annual economicgrowth rate of 10.4 percent, 1.5 times over the nation’s average.
Thecongress for the first time honoured 11 model citizens, including Prof.Ngo Bao Chau, the first Vietnamese mathematician to win the FieldsMedal, and Prof. Vu Khieu, 95.
Addressing the congress,National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong praised the achievements ofHanoi in the patriotism emulation movement over the past five years.“In every field there are bright examples of dedication to works, highsense of responsibility and creativity, he said.
On behalf of theParty and State, Chairman Trong handed over the State President’sGolden Star Order to Hanoi for outstanding contributions to therevolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
This is thethird time Hanoi has been awarded with this high distinction, whichis significant at a time when the city is celebrating its 1,000 thbirthday./.
