Hanoi hosts 5th international puppetry festival

The 5th International Puppetry Festival held in Hanoi from Oct. 8-15 sees the participation of troupes from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Wallonia-Brussels of Belgium, France, and Brazil.

Hanoi (VNA) - The fifthInternational Puppetry Festival held in Hanoi from October 8-15 sees theparticipation of troupes from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand,Wallonia-Brussels of Belgium, France, and Brazil.

Four Vietnamese art units joining the event are the Thang Long PuppetryTheatre, the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, the Ho Chi Minh City puppetry arttroupe, and the Hai Phong puppetry art troupe.

The types of puppet shows performed in thefestival include water puppet, shadow puppet, black puppet, hand puppet, and maskpuppet.

The organising board said the gold and silver prizes will be presented to the bestshows, while artists and troupes with unique creativity will receive sub-awards.

The play “Cong Chua Toc May” produced by theThang Long Puppetry Theatre, which talks about climate change, will be aspecial show in the programme.

The 45-minute show is a combination of different kinds of puppetry such aswater puppetry, and rode and string puppetry.

Meritorious artist Nguyen Phuong Nhi said throughcharacters in the fairy world such as the mermaid, princess, prince, witch, andanimals familiar to children like puppies, crows and pythons, the play conveysa message calling on people to join hands in combating climate change,protecting the environment and saving energy.

The excellent shows will be picked for wide performancein the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc and Ninh Binh.-VNA

Vietnam proposes priorities to strengthen international cooperation on world heritage conservation

On behalf of Vietnam, the deputy minister proposed three priorities of strengthening international cooperation and capacity-building for member states, particularly developing countries; promoting science-based conservation that strikes a balance between preservation and development while placing local communities at the centre; and enhancing coordination among relevant conventions and programmes, alongside the responsible application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in heritage conservation.

Vietnam attends multicultural festival in Germany as guest of honour

The Vietnamese booth attracted a large number of visitors with traditional dishes such as "nem cuon" (fresh spring rolls) and "bun cha" (grilled pork with vermicelli), along with displays of ao dai (traditional long dress), conical hats and cultural performances imbued with Vietnamese identity. These activities helped spread Vietnamese culture and foster understanding and closer ties between the Vietnamese community, German residents and international friends.

Beyond preservation: Unlocking the value of Vietnam's heritage

Dr. Nguyen Thu Hanh, Director of the Centre for Research and Development of Vietnam Cultural Industry (SDCI), said Vietnam has traditionally focused on preserving heritage rather than creating new value from it. The key obstacle, she noted, is the weak connection between heritage and science, technology, education, design, communications and the marketplace, limiting its economic, educational and social impact despite the country's abundant cultural resources.
