The Vietnam People’s Army will continue expanding cooperation with other ASEAN armies and work for the establishment of new mechanisms that fit the region’s security and cooperation interests.
Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty made the statement at an opening ceremony of the 15th ASEAN Chief of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM-15) in Hanoi on November 26.
ACAMM-15, themed “Enhancing coordinating capacity for ASEAN armies to respond to non-traditional challenges”, is held by the Vietnam People’s Army for the first time.
It aims to foster exchange and integration, contributing to enhancing solidarity, mutual understanding and trust among ASEAN militaries.
General Ty highlighted that ACMM-15 has become a crucial cooperation mechanism that works to deal with common security threats facing the region, especially non-traditional security threats, which have emerged in a great varieties and left enormous consequences that are incapably tackled by a single country itself.
At the five-day event, participants will discuss measures to promote cooperation among the army members to deal with security challenges with a view of contributing to maintaining the region’s peace and spurring its development as part of the efforts to build an ASEAN community by 2015.-VNA
