Hanoi hosts conference on Southeast Asian water environment

 Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th International Symposium on SoutheastAsian Water Environment (SEAWE) opened in Hanoi on November 29 helped regional researchers,managers and experts share experience in water environment management.

Thisyear’s symposium was co-organised by Vietnam’s National University of CivilEngineering (NUCE), the Vietnam Environment Administration, the Institute for GlobalEnvironment Strategies, University of Tokyo and the Ministry of the Environmentof Japan.

Thesymposium was initiated in 2003 by Japan’s University of Tokyo.

Main topics discussed during the conference were water management and watertreatment technology.

Participants exchanged views on coastal and marine water environment, urbanflooding and its health consequences and groundwater pollution control. 

Theyalso discussed climate change and water environment management, water supplyand treatment, emerging contaminants and environmental technology andappropriate technology for water and sanitation.

Accordingto NUCE’s Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga, water treatment technologyin Vietnam should include technical quality while meeting economic requirementsand weather conditions as well as processed objects.

Shealso noted despite a few researches on water environment conducted in Vietnam,the number of Vietnamese scientists participating in the event is on the rise,proving that they have kept up with regional research quality.
