The Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Plan Vietnam organisation on June 12 launched a project to end school-related gender-based violence.
From now to 2016, about 30,000 students and some 12,000 teachers of 20 secondary and high schools in Hanoi together with 45,000 parents will join in the project.
Under the initiative, students will be equipped with knowledge and skills to prevent and cope with gender-based violence.
It will also improve teachers’ capacity in creating an environment improving their students’ attitudes to gender equality.
According to a March survey in Hanoi, only 18.2 percent of 3,000 students asked said that their school was completely safe.
The reason for such a low rate is that up to 40.6 percent of the students were involved in fighting while 37 percent were bullied by their schoolmates.-VNA
