Hanoi learns Warsaw’s experience in relic preservation

Hanoi’s cultural officials learnt experience from Poland’s capital city of Warsaw in the preservation of historical relics and cultural heritage during a meeting with a delegation from the Warsaw Council.

Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi’s cultural officials learntexperience from Poland’s capital city of Warsaw in the preservation of historicalrelics and cultural heritages during a meeting with a delegation from theWarsaw City Council in Hanoi on March 29.

Hanoi currently has nearly 6,000 historical and culturalrelic sites and about 2,000 intangible heritages, some of them were recognisedby UNESCO as world heritages.

Leadersof the municipal Department of Culture, Sports andTourism told the guests that Hanoi has faced some difficulties in preservingrelic sites, including the serious degradation of relics due to time andweather, out-dated preservation methodsand technologies as well as limited humanresources.

Ewa Masny-Askanas, Vice Chairwoman of the Warsaw City Councilsaid that after the second World War, Warsaw’s relics were destroyed almostcompletely and re-constructed.

Therefore, the city’s relic sites are mostly 40-60 years old,but many of them have been recognised as world heritage sites, she said.

She added that in her country, the sites are managed by boththe State and private sector, but the restoration and repair must be allowed bythe State, while the installation of advertisement boards at the sites isbanned.

She also said that Warsaw also meets financial problems in theconservation of the relics.

Meanwhile, To Van Dong, Director of the municipal Departmentof Culture, Sports and Tourism, asked for cooperation and experience from theWarsaw delegation in the preservation of relics.

Hanoi wants Warsaw to send experts to help the city in personnel training forthe work.-VNA
