Hanoi will need about 12 trillion VND (666 million USD) between now and 2020 to build houses for workers.

The number of workers in the city is estimated to increase by 600,000 by 2015, of whom 480,000 will need accommodations. The figures will increase to 800,000 and 640,000 by 2020, respectively.

To meet those demands, the city authorities have asked relevant agencies to create favourable conditions for construction firms to build houses for workers and coordinate with management boards of industrial parks and export processing zones in Hanoi to examine the quality of housing projects.

At present, Hanoi is home to 17 industrial parks and hi-tech zones. Of them, eight industrial parks are operating with about 30,000 workers. However, enterprises operating in those parks are meeting difficulties in housing for their workers, thus affecting their production and business./.
