Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on May 9 held a working session with World Bank (WB) representatives on the Hanoi Urban Transport Development Project, reported Ha Noi Moi newspaper.

At the session, the two sides discussed solving difficulties when implementing the project, especially concerns relating to ground clearance work and development of the bus rapid transport (BRT) system.

The city’s leader affirmed that Hanoi will complete land clearance within this month and hasten the reorganisation of the tree system along the Nhat Tan-Cau Giay Belt Road No.2.

Chung proposed the WB continue working with the city in the BRT system’s implementation, especially the CP7 contract package to install ticket and communications systems.

The municipal Department of Transport was asked to work with WB experts on managing and operating the BRT system.

The Hanoi Urban Transport Development Project, with loans from the WB, includes three components, namely construction of the Belt Road No.2’s 6.1-kilometre Nhta Tan-Cau Giay section, construction of Kim Ma-Yen Nghia BRT route with a length of 15 kilometres, and equipment procurement and technical assistance for various agencies.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.-VNA
