Hanoi's flood control system to be upgraded

Hanoi will repair and upgrade all of its reservoirs before May 31 in an effort to prevent flooding during the upcoming flood season, says deputy director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Duc Trung.

The department will join hands withdistrict People's Committees and water resources enterprises to evaluateoperational processes at all city's reservoirs and develop plans toprevent flooding.

"Sluice gates will be checked and repaired to prevent flooding, and new concrete laid over reservoir roofs," he said.

The reservoirs will also receive repairs to prevent leaks.

Repairwork on the reservoirs is expected to cost 847.5 billion VND (42.3million USD) which will come from the city budget, according to Trung.

Departmentstatistics show that the city has 96 reservoirs which regulate waterfor agricultural manufacturing. Eleven of the largest reservoirs rangein capacity from 2-62 million cubic metres, including the Suoi Hai in BaVi district, Quan Son in My Duc district and Dong Suong in Chuong Mydistrict./.
