Streets in the capital city of Hanoi have been decorated with national flags, panels and banners to welcome the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

The Congress will be held from January 25 to February 2. To date, most of streets in Hanoi are decorated with colourful flowers and flags to welcome the event, while flowers and plants were also arranged in major areas. Before, during, and after the Congress, the capital has been deploying thousands of officers and soldiers from the Hanoi Department of Public Security and the municipal Military High Command to ensure security and safety. The walking area is a popular spot for both local people and tourists and usually crowded with visitors especially at weekends. The original pedestrian zone, covering more than 10 streets in the Hanoi Old Quarter, was put into operation in September 2016. In September 1945, the leader read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming to the world the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the Ba Dinh Square next to the mausoleum.
