HCM City commemorates Bach, Handel with concert

A concert will be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on March 9 to commemorate the 330th anniversary of the birth of Johannes Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, both born in 1685.

The event will take place amid an array ofactivities held around the world to celebrate the composers, the HCMCity Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) said.

The concertwill feature the composers' prominent works, including Bach'sOrchestral Suite No 3 in D Major BWV 1068 and Keyboard Concerto in DMinor BWV 1052, performed by pianist Igor Chistokletov.

Excerptsfrom Handel's works, including Solomon HWV 67, Rinaldo HWV 7, Ode for StCecilia's day HWV 76, Samson HWV 57, Serse HWV40 and Messiah HWV 56,will be performed by Vietnamese soprano Nguyen Duyen Huyen, Koreansoprano Cho Hae-royng and Vietnamese baritone Dao Mac, accompanied bythe HBSO Chorus and Symphony Orchestra.
